Mae Davenport is a professor and environmental social scientist in the Department of Forest Resources at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. She also directs the Center for Changing Landscapes. Her teaching and research center on (1) human and cultural environmental values, beliefs, and behaviors and (2) environmental planning and policy. Her research program is particularly focused on community-engaged science, policy and management for water protection, climate resilience, and environmental justice. She teaches courses on land use planning and policy, social science research methods, and protected area management. Over the past seven years, Mae has worked in partnership with tribal natural resource staff and knowledge holders in present-day Minnesota and Wisconsin to protect water and traditional food ecosystems. Mae grew up in rural Minnesota and returns to the Northwoods often to hike, fish, and harvest wild rice.
